Broccoli - Raab 60 Days

This is a favourite vegetable in Italy and it is very quick to grow. Generally the whole plant is harvested and leaves, stems and flower buds are all eaten. It is not actually a broccoli hence its many other names such as rapini, rappone, rabe and turnip broccoli.

Sow outdoors thinly, from February to September, where they are to crop, 1.5cm deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-cultivated, fertile soil, which has already been watered. Allow 30cm between rows. Early and late sowings benefit from cloche protection. Seedlings usually appear in 7-14 days. Thin out to 25cm apart. Transplant thinnings if required. Water well until plants are established. Regular sowings, made every two to three weeks, will ensure a continuous supply. Plants mature faster in warmer weather. Harvest from May to November.
